Somak Safaris is East Africa’s leading and fastest growing destination management company. We are a global yet independent organization, focusing on destination management, tour operating, retail travel and business house sales in East Africa, with associate offices in the UK and other countries.
Established in 1968 by the chairman Mr Suresh Sofat, Somak remains Kenyan-based and family run. The company has since grown from strength to strength, guided by family values and a team of dedicated staff, offering personal service and value for money. This is the noted “personal touch” that Somak Safaris offers, and has been enjoyed by over 50,000 guests from around the world every year.
Somak Safaris Operations in East Africa are coordinated by a team of highly qualified and experienced professionals. With four decades of experience in organising holidays, our pedigree is second to none, which is why several large tour operators entrust us with their ground handling.
Our East Africa headquarters in Nairobi is located on Mombasa Road, leading to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where you start and finish your adventures. The complex houses the administration department, workshop facilities for our safari vehicles, accommodation for our drivers and guides, and the Safari Lounge. The Lounge which is available to Somak guests passing through Nairobi either at the beginning or end of your safari, is a place to relax and freshen up before your onward journey. The Lounge offers refreshments, an air-conditioned lounge and washrooms with shower facilities.
Somak’s workshop includes a state of the art servicing bay, a body shop, a repair shop, a transport office and a major mechanical unit that maintains our fleet of modern microbuses and four wheel drive vehicles. All the vehicles are equipped with HF radio for ease of communication and tracking. The vehicles are maintained in superb form for utmost reliability.
Mombasa is East Africa’s leading port served by a high number of charter aircraft and cruise ships. Somak Mombasa is home to all coastal operations including Lamu and Malindi, and makes all arrangements using a large range of beach hotels, and organising excursions.
Somak’s Tanzanian company, Warner Safaris Ltd, is located in Arusha, enabling you to experience the highlights of this unspoilt land, backed by Somak’s knowledge and expertise. Warner Safaris is ideally placed to access the heart of Tanzania’s safari circuit, including world-famous locations such as the Serengeti plains where the annual wildebeest migration begins, and the lions in the geologically magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, the wildlife-rich Tarangire National Park and the roof of Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain on the continent.
The terrain can be demanding, and Warner Safaris maintains its impressive fleet of vehicles with regular servicing at its own well-equipped workshops, keeping them in peak condition.
Safaris, excursions, accommodation and international travel are all arranged here, for large and small groups, with our multi-lingual team, or via one of Somak’s overseas associate offices. Our in-house team of programmers is continuously developing cutting-edge programs, tailored to our operators’ requirements. Our huge buying power enables us to offer the best prices to the discerning traveller.
There is no “secret” ingredient to the success of Somak Safaris. We look forward to sharing our experience and knowledge of East Africa with you.
